Your Comfort Means a Happier Birth Experience

You are the queen of the birth experience, and you deserve to feel as luscious, pampered, and comfy as any royal or diva. Your comfort means a happier birth experience, the way you planned.

Choosing the right products to stow away in your hospital bag will help you stay smooth and hydrated during labor and throughout your stay in the birthing center or hospital.

You’ll want the right clothes to be warm or cool during labor in an air-controlled environment like the hospital or birthing center. As you think through your birth plan and related choices, you might decide you want to wear the comfiest clothes from your closet – – something that’s easy to do in a birthing center but might be a challenge in the hospital.

WHEN YOU IMAGINE YOUR BIRTH, DON’T JUST PLAN YOUR CLOTHES.

What about slippers or something to hold your hair out of your eyes? You won’t be the first woman to want a stretchable head wrap to keep hair off your face. Don’t leave this for the last minute – make sure you know what brand works for you.

During pregnancy, your skin probably changed. And once labor begins, feeling parched or greasy can be annoyingly distracting from the breathing exercises you practiced to help work through the pain.

Having natural and chemical-free products to soothe lips or skin – especially ones that don’t have strong scents – can feel heavenly during long laboring hours.

Even if you said in your birth plan that you want ocean-breeze-scented lotion, labor might change that delight to nausea. Natural products are often lightly-scented or unscented. When you plan your birth, consider that labor may change what smells, tastes, or feels good to you.

What about personal care for the rest of you? As nice as hospital or birthing center care may be, it may be full of things like mouthwash made from harsh chemicals and artificial ingredients. As you plan your birth, check out what natural products are available for your mouth, eyes, hair, belly and bottom.

You may not give a hoot about your appearance during labor, but afterward it feels so, so good to be fresh, smell fresh, and look your best.
